Cape Air Children Flying Alone Policy

Cape Air’s unaccompanied minor service allows children in certain circumstances to travel alone on Cape Air flights.

Unaccompanied minors are children five (5) through eleven (11) years of age who are traveling alone or not accompanied on the same flight by a passenger at least the age of a “Young Traveler” as defined within that section. Unaccompanied minors will be accepted for transportation as follows:

Age

- Minors under the age of five (5) are not accepted for travel unaccompanied.

- Minors age five (5) through eleven (11) years will be accepted for online travel for non-stop itineraries as unaccompanied minors on Cape Air (9K) marketed flights. Parents or guardians may request a person twelve (12) years of age or older to be escorted as if he or she was an unaccompanied minor for travel on online, non-stop itineraries on Cape Air (9K) marketed flights.

- For travel on United Express (UA*) marketed flights operated by Cape Air, minors age five (5) through fifteen (15) are required to travel as unaccompanied minors.

Service Charge and Fares

There is no additional service charge or escort fee for unaccompanied minors traveling on Cape Air marketed (9K) flights. A service charge is applicable for unaccompanied minors traveling on United Express (UA*) marketed flights operated by Cape Air.

Connecting and Interline Itineraries

Unaccompanied minors are not accepted for interline connecting itineraries, including to/from codeshare partners. For travel on Cape Air operated as “United Express”, unaccompanied minors are only accepted for travel on non-stop flights.

Positive Identification of Person Meeting UM and Airport Process

The unaccompanied minor must be brought to the airport by a parent, guardian or responsible adult who must furnish Cape Air with name, address and phone number of the parent, guardian or responsible adult who will meet the unaccompanied minor upon deplaning at the minor’s destination. This information will be recorded on the “UM Form.” We recommend checking-in early to ensure there is adequate time to complete the required paperwork. The parent, guardian or responsible adult must stay with the UM until the flight departs. The parent, guardian or responsible adult, who was previously named and furnished to Cape Air, must show proper identification in order for the unaccompanied minor to be released into his or her custody at the final destination.

Flight Cancellations and Diversions

In the event of flight cancellation, diversion, substantial delay or other irregularity within the Cape Air route system, the agent in charge, Captain or flight attendant will retain custody of the unaccompanied minor until that custody is transferred to a Cape Air agent or the parent guardian or responsible adult named on the UM Form.

In the event of a flight diversion to an airport not staffed by Cape Air personnel, Cape Air will make every effort to contact the parent, guardian or responsible adult identified on the UM Form to coordinate agreeable and suitable arrangements. The Captain or flight attendant will retain custody of the unaccompanied minor until such arrangements are coordinated. Cape Air will bear all reasonable costs associated in this instance to ensure the safety of the unaccompanied minor.

Responsibility of Cape Air

Cape Air assumes no responsibilities for unaccompanied minors beyond those applicable to an adult customer.
