Iskandar Airport
Iskandar Airport (IATA: PKN, ICAO: WAGI, previously WAOI) is a military-type
C airport located in Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. It holds the
distinction of being the only airport in Central Kalimantan with an Avtur fuel
station.
Spanning approximately 3,570 hectares, Iskandar Airport stands as the largest
military airport in Indonesia. However, only 200 hectares are currently utilized
for runways and buildings. The vast unused area serves an additional purpose as
a green lung within the city.
Managed and overseen by UPT Ditjen Hubud, an agency under the Ministry of
Transportation, Indonesia, Iskandar Airport serves as a significant
transportation hub for districts outside of Java Island. It facilitates
intercity flights and cargo transportation to and from various destinations in
Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Java Island.
Terminal Facilities
This domestic airport offers essential amenities to ensure passenger comfort and
convenience.
Public Transportation
Various taxi and shuttle services are available from numerous providers outside
the arrival hall.
Technical Specifications
Iskandar Airport sits at an elevation of 75 feet (23 meters) above mean sea
level. It boasts one runway designated 13/31, surfaced with asphalt and
measuring 1,650 by 30 meters (5,413 ft × 98 ft). In 2014, the runway was
extended to 2,120 meters (6,955 ft) to accommodate Boeing 737 aircraft.

Future Plan
In 2017, Iskandar Airport will seek additional development funds from the
central government to further enhance its infrastructure. These funds are
intended for several key projects, including extending the runway from its
current length of 2,120 meters to 3,570 meters. Additionally, plans include
the construction of a new terminal, designed to reflect the unique
architectural style typical of Central Kalimantan, along with other
necessary facilities.
The potential for Iskandar Airport's development is considerable. It is not
only bolstered by the allure of Tanjung Puting National Park, a renowned
conservation area for orangutans with international acclaim as a tourist
destination, but also by the rapid growth of investment and industries in
agrotourism and other agricultural sectors in Kotawaringin Barat and its
surrounding regions.
Various districts, including West Kotawaringin, Sukamara, Lamandau, and most
of Seruyan regencies, heavily rely on Iskandar Pangkalan Bun Airport for
their transportation needs beyond the island. As such, the airport's
expansion is anticipated to further facilitate travel and stimulate economic
growth in the area.
