Juwata International Airport
Juwata International Airport (Indonesian: Bandar Udara Internasional Juwata)
(IATA: TRK, ICAO: WAQQ) is situated in Tarakan, North Kalimantan, Indonesia,
located on the island of Tarakan off the coast of Borneo.
The airport's new terminal was officially inaugurated on 23 March 2016 by
President Joko Widodo and is operated and managed by the Ministry of
Transportation.
During the Battle of Tarakan in 1945, the airport served as the main Allied
objective.
Terminal Facilities
The land side of the passenger terminal has undergone significant expansion,
increasing from its original 2,532 m² to an impressive 12,440 m². Vehicle
parking facilities have also been expanded, covering an area of 14,000 m²
compared to the original 1000 m². The airport's capacity has increased
substantially, with the new terminal capable of accommodating up to 2,000
passengers daily, a significant upgrade from the previous capacity of 600
passengers daily. The terminal is equipped with essential amenities, shops, and
eateries for passenger convenience.
Public Transportation
Shuttle airport buses serve various destinations from Juwata International
Airport, while various taxi and shuttle services are available from numerous
providers outside the arrival hall.
Technical Specifications
Juwata Airport is located at an elevation of 6 m (20 ft) above mean sea level
and features a runway designated 06/24 with an asphalt surface measuring 2,250 x
45 meters. Additionally, there are two taxiways, each measuring 82 m x 23 m, and
another taxiway measuring 176.59 m x 23 m connecting to the air force base. The
apron on the air side has been expanded from its original size of 335 m x 70 m
to 335 m x 97 m.
