Utarom Airport
Utarom Airport or Kaimana Airport (Indonesian: Bandar Udara Utarom) (IATA:
KNG, ICAO: WASK) is an airport serving Kaimana, located in the province of West
Papua in Indonesia. Due to increasing passengers, the airport was heavily
modernized. The airport development was done in several stages, beginning in
2012, followed by upgrades in 2014, and completed at the end of 2015.
Currently, Utarom Airport has a modern passenger terminal design similar to that
of Wamena Airport. The airport's capacity has also increased to accommodate 102
passengers during peak hours.
Terminal Facilities
The passenger terminal is made more comfortable to improve service to
passengers, covering an area of 1,800 square meters. A wide variety of shops and
stalls are available throughout the Airport, including a mini-market, clothes
boutique, newsagent, restaurants, cafe, and a shop selling local handicrafts.
The Airport provides safe and secure short-term and long-term parking for your
vehicle during your trip.
The operation of the Airport is managed by UPT Ditjen Hubud, an agency under the
Ministry of Transportation, Indonesia.
Public Transportation
Taxis and private transport cars can be used as public transport alongside
private vehicles. Taxi counters are available at the arrival hall.
Technical Specification
The Airport resides at an elevation of 19 feet (6 m) above mean sea level. It
has one runway designated 01/19 with an asphalt surface measuring 2,000 by 30
meters (6,562 ft × 98 ft). Utarom Airport, classified as a third-class airport,
has a runway length of 2,000 m x 30 cm, two taxiways, and an apron area of 170 m
x 60 m.
For aviation safety improvement, the airport is equipped with new navigation
equipment such as non-directional beacon (NDB), Doppler VHF omnidirectional
range (DVOR), precision approach path indicator (PAPI), and the airfield
lighting system (AFL). The Airport is capable of accommodating aircraft such as
the ATR 72-500 and Boeing 737s.
