Haluoleo Airport
Haluoleo Airport

Haluoleo Airport, formerly known as Wolter Monginsidi Airport, is located in Kendari, South East Sulawesi, Indonesia (IATA: KDI, ICAO: WAWW). The original name honored Robert Wolter Monginsidi, an Indonesian national hero executed by the Dutch during the Indonesian National Revolution.

On February 13, 2010, the airport was renamed to honor Halu Oleo, the sixth sultan of the Buton Sultanate. Haluoleo Airport is being developed as a transit hub for flights in eastern Indonesia, complementing Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, which is currently facing capacity issues. This transit hub aims to reduce aircraft operating costs by saving fuel.

Terminal Facilities

The new terminal opened on April 6, 2012, featuring service improvements, including three aerobridges to facilitate passenger movement between the terminal and aircraft. In 2011, the apron was expanded from 195x91 square meters to 234x113 square meters. The runway was extended from 2,250 meters to 2,500 meters, with completion at the end of 2012. The apron can now accommodate eight wide-body aircraft, such as the Boeing 737-900ER and Airbus A320.

The airport is managed by the Ministry of Transportation.
