Sultan Thaha Airport
Sultan Thaha Airport

Sultan Thaha Airport, with IATA code DJB and ICAO code WIJJ, is situated in Jambi City, within the Jambi province of Indonesia. It is located in the Paalmerah suburb of Jambi. The airport operates a total of 73 weekly departures for short-haul destinations and 42 medium-sized aircraft departures each week.

The airport derives its name from Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin, the final Sultan of Jambi. During the colonial era, the airport was constructed by the Dutch and Japanese under the name Paalmerah Airport. The name originated from the stone pegs, known as "Paalmerah," which were used to delineate the airport boundaries and were marked with red paint.

Sultan Thaha Airport holds the distinction of being the world's inaugural Zoo Airport, closely integrated with Taman Rimba Zoo, located just 900 meters from the new terminal. The airport's surroundings are adorned with animal-themed features. However, the airport's development encroached upon part of the zoo's land, resulting in a reduced area of 13 hectares. As per regulations set by the Forestry Ministry, zoos should ideally span at least 15 hectares. Consequently, Taman Rimba Zoo is now categorized as a "Taman Satwa" or Animal Park.

Equipped with air bridges, escalators, elevators, and a commercial area, the terminal ensures comfort and convenience for passengers.
