Airport Security
The objective of airport security will be to safeguard the passengers, crew,
ground personnel, the general public and the airport infrastructure against
unlawful acts as per International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standards
and Recommended Practices laid down in Annexure-17 to the Chicago Convention.
Most of airport has now been given an Airport Security Unit, a trained unit to
counter unlawful interference with civil aviation. Apart from the Airport
Security Unit, every domestic airline has an security group who looks after the
aircraft security.
Terrorist threats and narcotics are the main threats in most airports. Before
boarding, additional searching of hand luggage is likely in some airports in
sensitive area.
The cargo security / screening is done by the Regulated Agents or Airlines /
Airports own security staff who are tested and certified by the Bureau of Civil
Aviation Security (BCAS), an aviation security Regulator.
