Redwood National and State Parks

Redwood National and State Parks are located in northern California, along the coast between the cities of Crescent City and Orick.

With an area of 112,512 acres (45,500 ha), the parks protect 45% of the remaining groves of coastal redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) trees, the tallest and one of the most massive tree species on Earth.

The RNSP are managed jointly by the National Park Service, a federal agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
The two agencies work cooperatively to protect the redwoods, the pristine Pacific Ocean coastline, the cultural resources, and the unique natural habitat.

The native range of coast redwood is from the northern California coast north to the southern Oregon Coast.

The Endor scenes for the Star Wars movie Return of the Jedi (Episode 6) were filmed in the Tall Trees Redwood Grove in the northern part of Humboldt County.
