Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum
The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is located at the Whitefish Point Light
Station. The museum exhibits artifacts from shipwrecks from the Whitefish Point
Underwater Preserve and the bell from the wreck of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald.
Since 1984, the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society was awarded numerous
grants used to restore or renovate historic buildings at Whitefish Point Light
Station. Many of the buildings are open to the public with an admission fee to
the museum. The museum complex includes both the modern and historic structures.
Admission to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum includes a tour of historic
buildings with displays that interpret the Great Lakes maritime, United States
Coast Guard, and US Life-Saving Service history.

The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,
near Whitefish Point. While it is a bit remote, there are a few options for
getting there by public transportation:
Greyhound Bus: Greyhound offers daily bus service to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan,
which is about an hour and a half drive from the museum. From Sault Ste. Marie,
you can rent a car or take a taxi to the museum.
Local Shuttle: The Tahquamenon Falls Shuttle offers a shuttle service from Sault
Ste. Marie to the museum during the summer months.
Taxi or Car Rental: You can also take a taxi or rent a car in Sault Ste. Marie
and drive to the museum yourself. It's about a 90-minute drive.
