Rhode Island State House
The Rhode Island State House is the capitol of Rhode Island. The State House
houses the Rhode Island General Assembly and the offices of the governor of
Rhode Island as well as the lieutenant governor, secretary of state, and General
Treasurer.
The current State House is Rhode Island's seventh state house and the second in
Providence after the Old Rhode Island State House.
It was designed by the architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White and
constructed from 1895 to 1904. The building had a major renovation in the late
1990s.

Getting There
The Rhode Island State House is located in Providence, and is accessible by
public transportation. You can take a RIPTA bus to Kennedy Plaza, which is
located near the State House. There are several bus lines that serve Kennedy
Plaza, including lines 1, 3, 6, 19, 27, 28, 33, 35, 40, 42, 49, 50, 55, 56, 57,
58, 66, 67, 92, and 96. From Kennedy Plaza, you can walk or take a short bus
ride to the State House. Alternatively, you can take the Providence/Stoughton
Commuter Rail Line to Providence Station and transfer to a bus or walk to the
State House.
