Abraham Lincoln Tomb

This Illinois State Historic Site is the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln,
his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, and three of their four sons. The exterior includes
a terrace and an obelisk, while the interior contains a rotunda and the burial
room.
The monument is owned and administered by the State of Illinois as Lincoln Tomb
State Historic Site.
The tomb is the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln, his wife, Mary Todd
Lincoln, and three of their four sons.
The memorial was completed in 1874. The remains of Lincoln and his three
youngest sons had been placed in the crypts in 1871. In 1876, because of an
attempt to steal the president's remains, Lincoln's body was moved to a cement
vault below the burial room.
In 1960 the Tomb was designated a National Historic Landmark and was placed on
the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
