Shirak International Airport

Shirak International Airport (LWN) is the second-largest airport in Armenia,
located near Gyumri, about 5 km from the city center and 120 km northwest of the
capital, Yerevan. It serves as an alternative to Zvartnots International
Airport, particularly for low-cost and regional flights. The airport is
essential for travelers in the northern part of Armenia and offers a convenient
gateway to the country.
Facilities at Shirak International Airport are modest but sufficient for the
volume of passengers it handles. The terminal includes check-in counters,
baggage claim, a few retail shops, and basic dining options. There is also free
Wi-Fi and seating areas, though the range of amenities is limited compared to
larger airports.
Several airlines operate from Shirak International Airport, including
Armenia Airways
and low-cost carriers like Wizz Air,
which offers budget flights to European destinations, as well as other regional
airlines connecting to Russia and neighboring countries. It is an increasingly
popular choice for budget-conscious travelers.
For public transportation, the airport is accessible by taxis, which are the
most common form of transport. There is no direct bus or train service, but
minibuses and taxis provide easy access to Gyumri and Yerevan, with travel times
to the capital around 2 hours by road.
