Velana International Airport

Velana International Airport (MLE), also known as Malé International Airport, is the main international gateway to the Maldives. Located on Hulhulé Island, about 2 km from the capital city Malé, it is the busiest airport in the country, handling over 4 million passengers annually. The airport serves as a vital hub for tourists traveling to the Maldives' famous resort islands.

Facilities at Velana International Airport are designed to cater to both leisure travelers and locals. The terminal offers free Wi-Fi, several duty-free shops, restaurants, and cafés serving both local and international cuisine. There are VIP and business lounges, as well as medical facilities and a 24-hour pharmacy. Additionally, the airport offers services such as currency exchange, ATMs, and luggage storage. A separate seaplane terminal is available for transfers to remote island resorts.

Airlines operating at Velana include major international carriers like Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Turkish Airlines. Maldivian Airlines, the national carrier, connects the capital to other islands and regional destinations. Numerous charter and private jets also serve the airport, especially for luxury travelers.

Public transportation from Velana International includes ferry services connecting to Malé city and nearby islands. Taxis and speedboats are readily available for resort transfers, and several resorts provide private boat or seaplane services for their guests.
