Valdez Airport
Valdez Airport (IATA: VDZ, ICAO: PAVD, FAA LID: VDZ), also known as Pioneer
Field, is a state-owned public-use airport located three nautical miles (6 km)
east of the central business district of Valdez, a city in the Valdez-Cordova
Census Area of the U.S. state of Alaska.
The airport is primarily served by Ravn Alaska,
which operates scheduled passenger flights to and from the airport, connecting
Valdez with Anchorage and other Alaskan destinations.
The airport has one runway designated 6/24, which is made of asphalt and
measures 6,500 by 150 feet. The terminal building at the airport houses a
ticketing counter, a waiting area, and a baggage claim area. While there is no
restaurant or café at the airport, vending machines are available for snacks and
drinks, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport for passengers.
Due to the airport's location near the coast, weather conditions can be
unpredictable and may affect flight schedules. It is advisable to check with the
airline for any updates or changes before traveling to or from Valdez Airport.
Additionally, the airport offers scenic flights over the nearby Chugach
Mountains, glaciers, and Prince William Sound, which can be arranged with local
