Sphinx International Airport

Sphinx International Airport (SPX) is a newly constructed airport located near Giza, about 45 kilometers (28 miles) west of Cairo, Egypt's capital city. The airport was inaugurated to reduce congestion at Cairo International Airport and to serve as a convenient alternative for travelers, especially those visiting the Giza Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, and other attractions in western Cairo. Its strategic location positions it as a vital hub for domestic and international flights, enhancing accessibility to Egypt's renowned historical sites.

Facilities

Sphinx International Airport boasts a modern terminal equipped with various amenities to cater to travelers' needs. The terminal features check-in counters, baggage claim areas, and security screening facilities. Passengers can find a selection of retail shops, including duty-free stores offering a range of goods such as perfumes, electronics, and souvenirs.

Food and beverage options include cafes and snack bars that serve both local and international cuisine. Additionally, the airport provides basic services such as ATMs, currency exchange, and free Wi-Fi to ensure a comfortable experience for travelers.

Airlines

The airport hosts both domestic and international flights, primarily focusing on catering to tourism. It serves as a base for domestic carriers like EgyptAir, which operates flights to various destinations within Egypt. The airport also welcomes charter flights from Europe and other regions, providing direct access to tourists eager to explore Egypt's historical landmarks. The airport's relatively smaller scale compared to Cairo International makes it an efficient choice for travelers looking to avoid the hustle and bustle of larger airports.

Public Transportation

Sphinx International Airport is well-connected by road, making it accessible to both locals and tourists. Taxis are readily available outside the terminal, providing a convenient option for reaching the Giza Pyramids, Cairo city center, or other nearby destinations. Additionally, many hotels and tour operators offer shuttle services to and from the airport. For those who prefer driving, car rental services are available at the airport, allowing visitors the flexibility to explore the region at their own pace. While public bus services are not directly available at the airport, future plans may include integrating public transportation options to enhance connectivity further.
