Wiley Post–Will Rogers Memorial Airport
Wiley Post–Will Rogers Memorial Airport, (IATA: BRW, ICAO: PABR, FAA LID: BRW)
often referred to as Post/Rogers Memorial is a public airport located in
Utqiaġvik, a city in the North Slope Borough of the U.S. state of Alaska. The
Airport is owned by the state. Situated on the Chukchi Sea at a latitude of
71.29°N, the airport is the farthest north of any in US territory.
The airport is named after American humorist Will Rogers and aviator Wiley Post,
both of whom died about 9 mi (14 km) away at Point Barrow in a 1935 airplane
crash.
The airport is primarily served by
laska Airlines and Ravn Alaska,
which operate scheduled passenger flights to and from the airport, connecting
Utqiagvik with Anchorage, other Alaskan destinations, and other North Slope
Borough communities.
The airport has one runway designated 7/25, which is made of gravel and measures
6,500 by 150 feet. The terminal building at the airport houses a ticketing
counter, a waiting area, and a baggage claim area. While there is no restaurant
or café at the airport, vending machines are available for snacks and drinks,
and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport for passengers.
Due to the airport's location in the Arctic region, weather conditions can be
extreme and may affect flight schedules. It is advisable to check with the
airline for any updates or changes before traveling to or from Wiley Post–Will
Rogers Memorial Airport. In addition to serving as a hub for air transportation
to remote villages and scientific research stations in the North Slope Borough,
the airport also serves as a gateway for tourists visiting the region to
experience the unique culture and natural wonders of Alaska's Arctic.
