Wrangell Airport
Wrangell Airport (IATA: WRG, ICAO: PAWG, FAA LID: WRG) is a state owned, public
use airport located one nautical mile (2 km) northeast of the central business
district of Wrangell, a city and borough in the U.S. state of Alaska which has
no road access to the outside world.
The airport is primarily served by
Alaska
Airlines and Taquan Air,
which operate scheduled passenger flights to and from the airport, connecting
Wrangell with Ketchikan and other Southeast Alaska communities. The airport has
one runway designated 10/28, which is made of asphalt and measures 5,200 by 100
feet.
The terminal building at the airport houses a ticketing counter, a waiting area,
and a baggage claim area. While there is no restaurant or café at the airport,
vending machines are available for snacks and drinks, and free Wi-Fi is
available throughout the airport for passengers.
Weather conditions can sometimes affect flight schedules at Wrangell Airport, so
it is advisable to check with the airline for any updates or changes before
traveling to or from the airport. Additionally, the airport serves as a hub for
air transportation to remote communities and natural wonders in Southeast
Alaska, such as the Stikine River and the nearby Tongass National Forest.
Visitors to Wrangell can experience the rugged natural beauty of Alaska and its
unique culture, including the Tlingit Native heritage, by exploring the town and
